in pursuit of the juiciest wine: day fifteen

Domaine le Couroulu Vacqueyras 2005It’s Thursday. That means going to Mahan’s to get more wine for the wine rack. One of the wine’s I got is Domaine le Couroulu Vacqueyras 2007. It’s located between Gigondas and Chateauneuf du Pape in the Rhône region. That puts it in the southern Rhône region, which means it will probably dominate with Grenache and maybe have some Syrah. Because it’s a French Syrah, it should be spicy. The back label says 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 10% Mouvedre. Mouvedre, as you know, comes straight from Funkytown, which is located everywhere.

Now it’s time to get my Lipps Inc ready for some tasting.

Bootsy CollinsYup, there’s some white pepper. There’s also some dark plums, earthiness, and muskiness. There’s also some lavender floating around between all four of those odors. The lavender is filling in the blanks. It’s holding it all together like the bass, like Bootsy Collins, in a funky jam.

There’s a spicy white pepper finish that lingers on the sides of the tongue, which I like, and in the back of the throat, but that’s it for the finish. It disappears as quick as Lipps Inc did.

I’m having a hard time describing this one. It holds together well. It’s not full of disparateness. Because of that I want to say it’s densely packed with dark berries.

This one is only $419.

This wine has been open for well over an hour, but it still needs some air.

The more I do these tastings the more I think I need a decanter. The more air in the wine the better the taste, and the decanter will do this.

It’s like the wine wants to be light and bouncy with some playful cherries. It wants the Grenache to come out, but it’s not getting enough air.

It needs some French air. Some French funk. Some French bass. Some Royal Air Funk.
