in pursuit of the juiciest wine: day sixteen

Borsao Tres Picos Garnacha 2004

Borsao Tres Picos Garnacha 2004. The last bottle in existence? If so, tonight I have the privilege of drinking an endangered species.

As I mentioned before, the Borsao Tres Picos Garnacha 2004 was a lovely and juicy wine. I have one bottle left of it, and I’ve been waiting for a special occasion to drink. My 500th rejection seems the fine occasion. Plus, I want to drink it before time gets to it.

The last time I had this wine was probably in 2006 and maybe 2007, too. So, I hope this dusty bottle has endured. I popped the cork about 30 minutes ago, and I’ll get to it soon. I think this may be the last bottle in existence.

Oh, it made Wine Spectator’s Top 100 wines of 2006, too. It got 91 points. Let’s hope it has endured.

The nose is dark and full of alcohol. There’s some vanilla bean and spice in there, too.

Oh man, look at those legs. Tons of alcohol. A very thin meniscus on top, which to me is a good sign of a matured wine. It’s very dark in color. It’s fully opaque.

It reminds me of a Zinfandel, a bit.

Ok, here it goes. Allons-y 2004 and 500th rejection.

It’s very thick, and it has gone bad. It’s really sour. It’s so sour I’m getting goose bumps. Foiled again. It didn’t endure.

Damn you, Time. Damn you. [Fist shakes at mutability.] This tasting is done, now. Time for the 2007.//
